Wait, is this Los Angeles, or Hawaii? Another thick blanket of vog persisted through the day Saturday as winds remain mostly calm across the State.

The usual excellent visibility was reduced to five miles this morning on Molokai and Maui, with the Kahalui Airport issuing a "Smoke and Haze" alert to pilots. Six miles was the visibility report on the leeward coast of Oahu. And at noon, Honolulu International Airport reported visibility down to eight miles.

Doctors reported seeing more patients than usual complaining of the typical haze and vog symptoms: itchy eyes, scratchy throats, and overall cold-like symptoms.

A gradual clearing is expected as we move through the weekend.

These two pictures were taken about 15 minutes apart at 2 p.m. in Kahalu'u. If you look hard at the first photo, you can see Mokolii Island (Chinaman's Hat) just above the tree in the center. Just fifteen minutes later, Mokolii is just about gone in the vog.
