Those students set an example by changing all the incandescent light bulbs in Saunders Hall to compact fluorescent lights. It took more than three hours to change bulbs in the seven-story building. The university will reportedly be saving anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 by removing light bulbs. "It's probably the best bang for the buck and the easiest change that anyone could make in their home or business to change the amount of energy they are using and reduce it greatly," said Shanah Trevenna. The university also expects to receive about $10,000 in rebates from Hawaiian Electric because for every four-foot bulb removed, HECO gives $5 in rebates. UH removed about 2,000 bulbs. |
