Dozens of volunteers help gather the bears from the public while local musicians entertained the crowd. As many as 40 to 50,000 children are reportedly abused or neglected each year in Hawaii. Officials said the first step to stopping the problem is educating parents. "Four children die every day across the nation from child abuse. Hopefully its going to put us out of business one day just by continuing education and just increasing awareness out there," said George Churchill. The stuffed animals will go to abused children in shelters and hospitals across the state. |
