Wanted Wednesday: Sheila Kahalewai Print E-mail

July 29,2005: It's around 10:15 in the morning. Workers at Catholic Charities on the second floor are working to help the needy, but police say they would need help themselves when 44-year-old career criminal Sheila Kahalewai enters the building.

"The girl that Sheila was with goes off to the bathroom and Sheila goes into and unoccupied office. She's found by an employee, hey what are you doing here? Oh, I'm looking for someone. Anyway, she's asked to leave."

But police say didn't and would be discovered in the dark office of yet another employee who confronts Kahalewai after noticing her purse has been gone through and her desk tossled.

"What are you doing here. I need to get help. I need to get housing and things like this. The employee being smart follows her, blocks her from leaving, finds on her, the checkbook, her jewelry and items that are missing from other offices. So police are called and she is arrested."

And it's not her first arrest. Kahalewai, who was on probation at the time, has 70 prior arrests and 32 convictions. "She's got a lot of burglaries, drug cases, abuse cases, trespassing, just name it she's got it."

Kahalewai would eventually be convicted of second degree burglary in her latest crime, but she didn't stick around for sentencing, going on the run this past January.

Kahalewai is described at 5'1", weighing about 115 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She also has numerous tattoos. "All I have is that she has tattoos on her neck, both arms, both legs, both hands and both forearms. There's no description."

Kahalewai also goes by the name Sheila Andrade. She's known to hang out in the downtown area.

Helping police find her could put up to a thousand bucks in your pocket.
