Sales are soaring for the Ford Focus and the new Toyota subcompact sales are plunging for thirsty mega vehicles. It's clear driven by those gas prices. But not only that. Beyond the price of gas there is the price of the vehicles themselves--smaller is cheaper and babyboomers need less car than they did before the kids moved out. There is also the EPA factor. EPA imposes collective fuel efficiency requirements and each automaker has to sell enough fuel-efficient vehicles to offset the thirsty ones. The only way they can meet their next deadline is to sell more small vehicles, so you can expect some exciting new models on this side of the showroom. |
