The 10-Second DTV Test: Are You Ready?
UH Manoa to Report Greenhouse Emissions Print E-mail

The University of Hawaii at Manoa is stepping up its efforts when it comes to going green. The university is joining forces with "the Climate Registry," a non-profit organization that measures and reports greenhouse gas emissions.

UH will be the first university in the country to measure and report emissions data to the registry. By doing so, school officials hope to reduce their own energy dependency.

"There's an economic benefit for us to reduce our reliance on petroleum and other kinds of fossil fuels. And the University of Hawaii at Manoa is very committed to measuring our existent use and work towards a reduction of that use," said economics professor Denise Konan.

Right now, 75 organizations across the globe are participating. UH Manoa hopes to reduce energy use by 30 percent by 2012.
