KGMB9 was honored Saturday night by its broadcast colleagues with four Emmy Awards, including two of the top awards given in the television business.
The Emmy for Station Excellence was awarded to KGMB9 for demonstrating overall achievement in news, local programming, the web, and promotion throughout 2007, beating out stations in San Francisco, Fresno, and Sacramento.
KGMB9 News at 10pm picked up the award for Best Newscast.
Sunrise Director Michael Harris, who attended the event with his mother, also won for Best Director for his work on the Lantern Floating Festival special which aired on KGMB9.
And the KGMB9 Sports team also took home an Emmy for the second year in a row; the Warriors football show, "June Jones: Perfect in Paradise" won for Best Sports Program.
"I got chicken skin when I heard the news," said KGMB9 President and General Manager Rick Blangiardi. "This is a major accomplishment by the men and women of KGMB9 who are so dedicated to serving the State of Hawaii with the absolute best news coverage each day."
"I'm so proud of our group," said News Director Chris Archer. "Long days. Early mornings. Lots of work. A great validation for all of our effort, and a great honor for Hawaii to be honored on such a large stage."
