Just a day after Annika Sorenstam announced she was leaving the LPGA after the 2008 season, Belgian Justine Henin retired from tennis today. Henin leaves as the number 1-ranked player in the world just weeks before the start of the French Open. The 25-year-old Henin has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, but has been in one of the worst slumps of her career this season. She lost last week in the third round of the German Open and pulled out of this week's Italian Open, citing fatigue. Henin won't have any sort of farewell tour. She is quitting immediately. |
