If a natural disaster were to hit would we be prepared? The armed forces geared up for the worst-case scenario if a hurricane were to strike. All four branches of the service met Wednesday morning to discuss what their roles would be in the aftermath of a category four hurricane, which generally means strong winds of up to 155 miles per hour.
In Wednesdays mock exercise workers set up a mobile command center that could initiate response within 24 hours of landfall. Now organizers say the exercise is important for the department of defense to know exactly where it can be most effective.
"And it's critical because we are collectively in this together. We understand given the isolation of the island chain. We have to have dependency, reliancy on each other, so we can sustain and maintain life support post disasters" said Lieutenant Ed Toy.
The exercise continues Thursday, and starting next week the state will concentrate on how it can work with local and federal authorities before a hurricane strikes. |
