Leader of Hawaiian Group Banned From Iolani Palace Print E-mail
May 14, 2008 06:23 PM

The leader of a Hawaiian group was banned from the grounds of Iolani Palace Wednesday.

She said it's just because she went to get a piece of mail.

Several DLNR officers kept watch on the palace where about 30 members of the Hawaiian kingdom government have been gathering for the past two weeks.

They do have a permit to assemble in a specific area on palace grounds between 6 and 5 p.m. daily.

On Wednesday, the leader referred to as her majesty Mahealani Kahau said she was ordered off because she went to get a letter in the old archives building. She said she was told that violates the terms of the permit.

"They said if you don't leave I'm going to arrest you. He said that six times, I was irritated," said Mahealani Kahau, Hawaiian Kingdom Government.

No one was arrested. The group's permit is still valid through Friday.
