You Make The Call
Engine Trouble on Hawaiian Airlines Flight Print E-mail

Problems at 22,000 feet. A Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu to Portland loses one of its engine during mid-flight. Flight 26 left Hawaii Wednesday afternoon and almost made it half way to Oregon when the pilot decided to turn around. The plane was re-routed to Kahului Airport on Maui after the left engine went out. An FAA spokesman tells KGMB9 it's up to the pilot on where he wants to land during an emergency.

"The decision on where to divert is entirely up to the pilot. The pilot is always the person in command and makes the call on where he or she wants to go," said Ian Gregor.

Some of the passengers have been shuttled over to Oahu to catch another flight back to portland. They're expected to leave Wednesday night.
