"It just sounded like someone went through my garage," said next door neighbor Shaw Schaardt. But it didn't go through his garage. Instead, a car had gone through his neighbor's bedroom. He heard yelling, ran next door, and found his friend Evan okay, after being pinned to a wall. The 90-year old driver was sitting inside her car, shaken but uninjured. Police say she hit a van, but didn't stop there. She flew up the curb, went across the lawn and only stopped when she crashed into the house. Evan's father was upstairs when he felt his entire house shake. He feared his son may have been killed. " I ran downstairs to my son's room and he was pinned between the bed, and the wall," choked Al Garcia, "so I was really hysterical, and yelling Evan, Evan and he popped his head out. I felt relieved. Emergency crews took the 19-year-old to a hospital in stable condition. Shawn saw Evan come home a few hours later. "He had a couple of scratches, but compared to what could have happened, minor," he said. The car caused extensive damage to the house, but the family is still staying there, using support beams on the damaged side of the house. They'll be sure to stay on the sturdy side, until it's rebuilt. |
