They've been preparing to sing at the upcoming Ocean Awareness Festival. These little tykes are from Pünana Leo o Kawaiaha'o, a Hawaiian language immersion school for Pre-K students. They're going to perform in just a minute, but first we want to speak with Joe Awong about the event.
Proceeds from the event benefit Pünana Leo o Kawaiaha'o (PLOK), one of eleven 'Aha Pünana Leo preschools in the state. Located on the grounds of the historic Kawaiaha'o Church in Honolulu, PLOK first opened its doors in 1995. As a Hawaiian language immersion preschool dedicated to preserving the native language of Hawai'i, PLOK's entire curriculum is conducted in Hawaiian, and the school currently serves 16 students. |
