The crash happened around 10:20 p.m. Thursday in Nanakuli near Hakimo Road. Police said a pickup truck was speeding down Farrington Highway when it lost control and collided with a guard rail. The truck then crossed over two lanes and slammed into an oncoming car. It hit a tree and a wall before flipping over. The driver was thrown from his truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters extricated a 28-year-old woman sitting in the passenger seat. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Five people were in the other car. A four-year-old boy was ejected and pronounced dead at the hospital. The rest of the passengers, including a one-year-old girl, were taken to Queen's Medical Center in serious condition. Neighbors rushed out to help when they heard the noise. "I had the daughter with me," one woman said. "I was holding her and dusting off all the glass she had on the body. And I held her until the parents went with the ambulance and one of the family came and grabbed the baby." Police said speed and alcohol were factors in this crash. |
