Expressing emotions and insight and having another experience those precious understandings through various senses is a fundamental goal of art. Henani Enos and Olu Saguid's artwork is successful in eliciting an immediate appreciation for the expertise of our Hawaiians of old. Once we decide on the subject matter, we want to ensure an authentic representatioin of the implements and images. So we put a lot of effort into researching the pieces before we start working on the items. While Henani's passion for drawing started in his youth, it was through teaching at Nawahiokalaniopuu that he found a driving inspiration. We constantly encourage our students to seek out traditional knowledge and make it relevant to their daily work. |
