Interesting Fact About OR Primaries; Vote-By-Mail Print E-mail
Written by KGMB9 Interactive - webmaster@kgmb9.com

An interesting fact about today's Democratic presidential primaries is that Oregon has a mail-only primary, the only one of its kind in the United States. Oregon has been holding their elections in this way since 1998 and reports that they have reduced the cost of holding their elections and increasing voter participation. However, critics cite the possibility of fraud and manipulation in the process and the reliance on the U.S. Postal Service.

Oregon has 52 delegates at stake and Kentucky has 51. Barack Obama is favored in Oregon and Hillary Clinton in Kentucky. Regardless of the outcome today, neither candidate will reach the 2,026 delegates needed to clinch the nomination as all Democratic contests distribute the delegates proportionately.

Only three primaries remain after Tuesday, Puerto Rico on June 1 and South Dakota and Montana on June 3.
