Some Board of Education officials want to more than double school bus fares. Under a plan tentatively approved by a board committee, fares for kids who ride the yellow buses would go up from about $120 a year to $300. Assistant Superintendent Randy Moore says the plan is to implement the increase administratively. Otherwise it would take months to get the increase through a public hearing process. officials could implement the increase. About one-fourth of public school children -- or 40,000 statewide -- would be affected by the increase.
