Tapia is 100 years old. He was playing with the orchestra the night the Royal Hawaiian opened in 1927. In the 1930's, he also worked at the hotel as a driver for Hollywood movie stars and famous musicians but playing music is his life. "This is all what I did all my life since I was...well, I was seven when I learned this. When I was ten I worked in World War One," said 100-year-old ukulele player Bill Tapia. Tapia's concert is the last before the monarch room shuts down for renovations. It will also feature several other entertainers including Mihana, Makana, Jeff Peterson and Owana Salazar. The music begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday. General admission tickets are $48. Related Story: |
