According to the Brookings Institution, Honolulu residents produced about 1.36 metric tons of carbon emissions in 2005. That compares to about 3.5 metric tons for Lexington, Kentucky, the highest emitter on the list. Mayor Mufi Hannemann used the announcement today to promote the city's future mass transit line. "That same report said, that if you want to continue to reduce global warming and help climate protection, you need to support mass transit. that's what that study said," Hannemann said.
