Kamehameha I: Hawaii's Greatest King Print E-mail
Written by Sunrise on KGMB9 - sunrise@kgmb9.com

Many of us have our usual ways of celebrating Kamehameha Day, going to parades and so forth. But just how much do we know about this powerful king that united the Hawaiian islands?

Kamehameha was a great king loved by his people. "He was a hard working alii. He was out among his people working and doing. He didn't just sit around ordering others around." The story illustrates his love for his people. A large number of coconuts needed to be taken from Puako to Waimea on Hawaii island for the blessing of a heiau there. The people were weary from the hard work.

We hope this helps you think of Kamehameha Day as much more than a holiday, but a day to remember arguably Hawaii's most humble and greatest king.
