Murder Victim's Family Forgives Alleged Killer Print E-mail

The families of a young murder victim and his accused killer hugged each other outside a courtroom just four days after the fatal stabbing in Kaneohe. Relatives of murder victim Steven Wilcox, 19, and suspect Glenn Keohokapu, Jr. also prayed together for healing.

"The only thing that I wanna say is that I love my son. He's wrong for what he's done and I love the parents of the boy that lost their son," said Glenn Keohokapu, Sr., the suspect's father.

"I wanna see my son again and in order to see him again you need forgiveness in your heart," said the victim's mother, Gwendolyn Kailihiwa.

Keohokapu is charged with second-degree murder. Both families sat together during his initial appearance in court.

"He didn't even turn around and look. I wanted to look at his face. I wanted him to see us. I wanted him to see the mom. He never turn around. I was disappointed but it's okay," said the suspect's father.

Police said Keohokapu was at Club Komomai on Sunday with his wife who had a restraining order against him. Wilcox tried to stop an argument between the two in the parking lot, according to witnesses. Keohokapu then allegedly stabbed Wilcox in the chest.

"Whatever happens to my son, I just hope justice. I always told my son whatever you do you going have to face the consequences whether good or bad," said the suspect's father.

Wilcox was the oldest of triplets. His family said they believe he is now watching over them. Keohokapu is being held on $300,000 bail. Keohokapu's father said he was not proud of what his son had done, but he still loves him.

"We always said nothing like this would happen, but it has. My apologies cannot bring this brother back," said the suspect's father.

"I just want to tell everybody out there that let these people live happy, and we all can live together and forgive because only God had the power to do this," said Charles Kailihiwa, Wilcox's stepfather.

Wilcox's parents invited the Keohokapu family to the funeral on June 27 at the Hawaiian Memorial Park mortuary.
