Hawaii new claims for unemployment benefits have spiked in the newest weekly report, to almost 2-thousand. It's the highest number since early April when Aloha and ATA employees were thrown onto the jobless rolls.
With 11 months of the fiscal year now toted up -- Hawaii tax revenues top 4-billion. Year-to-year growth in state tax revenue has now fallen below 3%, or below the rate of inflation.
US Airways has become the third major airline to charge 15 dollars to check your first bag. The number six legacy carrier also says it will charge 2 dollars for non-alcoholic drinks -- including water.
American Airlines has successfully gotten all the major mainland carriers to hike their fuel surcharges 20 dollars per roundtrip. United quickly matched, then Continental, and now Northwest and US Airways have done it, too. |
