Leave your child alone in the car for too long and you'll be slapped with a fine. Thats part of a new state law. Governor Linda Lingle signed the bill making it illegal to leave a child under the age of nine alone in a car for more than five minutes.

Its also against the law to leave a child under five alone in a car with another under the age of 12. Since 2003, three children have died from the heat after being left alone in the car in Hawaii. First-time violators can be fined as much as 500 dollars.
