Ensuring that our communities are eating well and living healthy is important and Ma'o Farms in Waianae is doing just that, while taking care of the aina as well. Ma'o Farms grows everything from arugula and baby romaine lettuce to eggplants and Tahitian limes. The farm uses ecologically friendly techniques like the elimination of pesticides. And as a result, it was certified by the Hawaii Organic Farmers Association. Mao provides produce for fine-dining restaurants and markets like Alan Wong's and Umeke Market. They pursue this quality with a Hawaiian perspective. "The Hawaiian mindset is important. We take the traditional practices of our ancestors and apply them, resulting in a Hawaiian initiative." They also feel it is important to respect the valley, learn everything about the aina they reside on and put that knowledge to good use. |
