The First Hawaiian Bank in Kailua is redesigning it's new building around a Hawaiian burial site. The remains, or iwi, were found in March during excavation. The burial site is in a parking lot. The bank is moving to make way for a new Whole Foods Market. Officials from the Department of Land and Natural Resources say the bank will make changes to it's building so the bones, in a 350-square foot area, can be preserved in their place. This is the second discovery of human remains with ties to a Whole Foods building project. |
