No one was hurt and he was taken into police custody this morning. Moments after residents were given the all clear, right after 11 this morning, the Red Cross closed a shelter some stayed in at nearby Hoaeae Community Park. Police will give another briefing at 1 p.m. Military officials have confirmed the man is an active duty Schofield soldier from the 25th infantry. Sources tell KGMB9 that the man is armed with two hand guns. Fourteen apartment units were evacuated because of the danger. We spoke to Maj. Frank Fujii of the Honolulu Police Department earlier this morning. At that time, he said they had been in contact with the man throughout the night. "The primary focus we have here is conversing with him and ending this thing as peaceful as we can. Our goal is to end these situations with no one getting hurt." Neighbors say the man is going through a divorce and his wife is on the mainland. Police first received the call just after 6 from the Villas at Royal Kunia on Anonui Street. They say the soldier was in a unit, with two handguns, and refused to come out. SWAT teams quickly responded and families in nearby units have been evacuated from the building. Anonui Street remains open, but the entrance to the Villas is closed. Related Stories: Royal Kunia Standoff Put Face on Growing Problem |
