Seattle Sonics Moving to Oklahoma City Print E-mail

Sad day for Seattle fans. The Sonics are saying so long to the city they called home for 41 years and are moving to Oklahoma City. A settlement was reached Wednesday allowing owner Clay Bennett to move the team. Why oklahoma? Well, it's no secret it's Bennett's home state. Seattle will get $45 million up front and maybe another $30 million more if the city is without a NBA franchise by 2013. Seattle also gets to keep the Sonics name and the team's colors.

"The transition and the move of this operation and this team, begins tomorrow morning from Seattle to OKC. And I really want to thank our players and our coaches who endured an extraordinary season, playing with this uncertainty, particularly young players, and to have that uncertainty removed was an enormous motivation for our ownership group," said Clay Bennett.
