Aging is a critical social issue across the nation. Here in Hawaii, we take great pride in taking care of our families, especially our kupuna. However, we face even greater challenges when it comes to aging that are unique to our island home. Hawaii’s people live about three years longer than the national average, and by 2020, 25% of our residents will be age 60 or older.
In KGMB9's hour-long special, "The Genius of Aging," we'll explore the different decisions some families are making for the long-term care of their loved ones. We'll also explore some of the local resources available to Hawaii's kupuna and their caregivers, and see exactly what it means to "age actively."
Join host Kim Gennaula and world-renowned geriatrician Dr. Bill Thomas as we work towards creating a "new old age" for Hawaii and its people.
