Thanks to a grant from HMSA, two $75,000 grants over two years will go towards the Hawaii-Pacific Basin area Health Education Center. Since 1995, the program has helped neighbor island students find jobs in the health care field. Offcials from Hawaii's largest medical insurer said it's important to "grow our own healers." "This program at the School of Medicine is engaged and is working with high school students to get them interested, and hopefully find a few physicians and nurses to get involved and come to our schools," said Cliff Cisco. The money will develop health career internships, math and science camps and develop a resource Web site. Related Story: HMSA Announces 2 Grants to UH School of Medicine
