Fortunately, volunteers at many of the great museums in the Nazis' path moved their collections to hiding places in the countryside, but the private collections of many jews were lost entirely. The film introduces the so called "monument men," American soldiers assigned to protect and save whatever artworks they could. "The Rape of Europa" is a documentary anyone interested in art will enjoy. Another noteworthy film playing at Kahala and at Dole is "Mongol," a Russian historical epic about the early years of the great Genghis Kahn. I'm not a fan of martial arts films, but the artistry of director Sergei Bodrov is something to behold. Bodrov is a director in complete command of his medium. His unique style of filming battles kept me riveted to the screen. |
