TOKYO (AP) - The Nikkei reports that Toyota's ecological Prius gas-electric hybrid will become even greener by offering solar energy for powering its air-conditioning. According to the major Japanese business daily, which doesn't cite sources, Toyota's remodeled Prius, planned for next year, will come up with solar panels on its roof that will provide two to five kilowatts of electricity from solar energy. The paper says the feature will be in some high-end Prius models. Toyota plans to purchase the solar panels from Japanese electronics maker Kyocera. A Toyota spokesman declines comment, saying the company doesn't comment on product plans. A Toyota official has said details on what will be a third-generation Prius are in the works for disclosure likely next May. |
