The neighbor island home price figures are in from June. The Big Island, Kauai and Maui County realtors all report the number of single-family home sales down more than a third from June of last year. But the price picture is really different from one county to the next. Take a look.
On Kauai, where only 28 homes sold, the median price was only a little under 700 grand -- the condo median was almost 600. In Maui Countym, 74 home homes closed for a median price of 616 grand. The Big Island had 101 sales, almost as many as the other two counties, together, median down to
Big Island -- 101 homes went to closing in June, down 37% from the same time last year, and the median price fell 18% to $299,000 -- 31 condos sold, down 33%, and the condo median fell 12% to $355,000.
Maui County -- 74 homes went to closing in June, down 34% from the same time last year, and the median price fell 8% to $616,000 -- 53 condos sold, down 53%, but the condo median rose 22% to $580,000.
Kauai -- 28 homes went to closing in June, down 39% from the same time last year, but the median price rose 5% to $687,500 -- 21 condos sold, down 13%, while the condo median was $572,500, down from last year but by less than 1%.
Other Headlines:
Hagadone Printing is switching to a new work week -- 10 hours a day, four days a week. It's to cut back on energy bills -- cut energy use 15%. Hagadone President Erwin Hudelist calls it a pre-emptive attack on soaring energy bills.
Hawaiian Airlines has once again nailed the top spot for on-time airline performance. The new figures cover the month of May. Nine out of ten flights were on time despite 50% more interisland flights.
Fed head Ben Bernanke says it's not too soon to prevent the next mortgage debacle. The Fed proposes new legal obligation. There must be something to it because the American Bankers Association, the Mortgage Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers Association all oppose it. |
