They're only 11 years old and they are already taking part in international relations. These kids are part of a select group of eight kids who are going to be junior ambassadors in Fukuoka, Japan at the Asian-Pacific Children's Convention. About the Convention: The Asian-Pacific Children's Convention in FUKUOKA (APCC) is a grassroots organization devoted to promoting international exchange both in the community and throughout the world. The APCC began life in 1989 as part of the Asian-Pacific Exposition "Yokatopia" which was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Fukuoka City. During our spring "Mission Project", where we send children from Fukuoka abroad, and our summer "Invitation Project", where children from over 40 Asian-Pacific regions and countries are invited to Fukuoka for a fortnight long international exchange event, the children take part in a variety of activities including home-stays with local host families and school visits. These activities are designed to expose the children to other cultures and promote feelings of mutual understanding, tearing down the barriers of prejudice and racism. Related Link: |
