Hawaii home sales are running more than a third lower than last year. But prices are firm, with most homes holding onto at least four fifths of their peak value a year or two ago. And mortgage rates remain low, around 6%. Harvey Shapiro is an economist who works full-time for the Honolulu Board of Realtors. He says one of the most encouraging developments in his new figures for the spring quarter is that many homes are taking only a month or so to sell -- average selling time had been way longer. |
