Timeless designs, vibrant colors and flattering shape make this Oahu clothing company a force in Hawaii's fashion industry. In 1985, Danene Lunn, armed with a fashion design degree, set out on a venture that would change her life... a new aloha attire label called Manuhealii. From years of selling her wares at craft fairs Danene and her architect husband Pono opened their first store in 1995. For the Lunns, cooperation is key. Danene handles patterns and colors while Pono dreams up the designs. They believe their success is only possible with help from family and friends. And the next generation is already following in Danene's footsteps, attending fashion school at Honolulu Community College. "She went there and I want to do as she did, eventually creating my own line of Hawaiian designs. She's a role model, showing us that we can accomplish this." But the most important aspect of this trendsetting clothing label is... "There is an understanding of aloha and ike Hawaii that is infused into the clothing." You can check out Manuhealii at their town location on Punahou street, in Kailua at Kailua Shopping Center or log onto their website at www.manuhealii.com. |
