Kailua Canoe Club with a nice lead coming out of the turn. And from there it was a pretty smooth run to the flags. This event which has been dominated all season by Lanikai, but the club sat this week out making room for the other windward crew. Kailua wins by half a boat, completing the one mile course in 7 minutes and 13 seconds. "Today our phrase was relax the intensity. Just because sometimes we get kind of amped out in the race. So we just wanted to stay relaxed but also stay intense. And how's the season been going for you guys, how many first place finishes have you had? This is actually our first win but we've been pretty much battling with Lanikai, right behind them." Following the start of the sophomore women's race it was really no contest. The ladies from Hui Lanakila remain undefeated. Now it's a matter of improving on their time. Today proved to be the best of the season. They took the one mile sprint in 7 minutes and 59 seconds. And then 45 seconds later, the race for second place was exciting with Lanikai edging out Healani. "We've been working hard and training hard and the state race is where it's going to get a little tighter. That's the catch because there's some other associations winning like we are so when we all converge for states in august that's the real deal." Also in KGMB9 Sports:
