Today this room is a construction zone. Saws, paint cans, and lumber abound. But by year's end it will be "a recording studio and video production studio. We have already made a couple of CDs as well as a video, the original story of Kaluaikoolau." Those first CDs were recorded in Hilo and Kapaa, but the travel was becoming too expensive for the group. "We needed to consider building our own studio so I began looking for people to help. I didn't know where to start or what to do." A chance meeting with an engineer from Berkeley College of Music led to the designing, while Kamehameha Schools provided the funds. This studio will make it easier for projects like the school's first DVD, Kaluaikoolau. "We can put out projects right here at the school, videos and CDs." The studio may help garner funds through studio time rentals. "Funds generated could, for instance, help sustain an infant-toddler and preschool program here." We will be sure to keep an eye out for new media projects from Ke Kula Niihau o Kekaha. |
