This week our focus is on pet obesity. If it's not managed it can lead to diabetes or heart and liver disease. This tip comes from veterinarian Sharman Elison at the Haiku Pet Clinic. She says to find out if you're feeding your dog too much, dump the food into the bowl as usual. Then put it into a measuring cup and see how much you're really feeding your pet. For adult dogs 18 months and older, here's a good rule of thumb: one cup of food for every 20 pounds. You can multiply or divide according to your dog's weight. Don't forget to factor in all the treats and wet food you're also feeding your pet. |
