The red, string-like seaweed, grows on every island and can double in size in 2 days. In wet suits, they vacuumed up the bothersome seaweed using a six-inch pump, or super sucker. That can pick up 300 to 400 gallons of seawater a minute. The algae clean-up is all part of 3-day collaborative effort between the state, county and University of Hawaii. |
