We recently spent time with a team of cultural practitioners on their way to research the Northwest Hawaiian Islands. Today we catch up with a Moloka'i fisherman who was on the journey to se the lessons he learned. Mervin Dudoit has been a fisherman for 50 years.

He recently traveled to Papahanaumokuakea on a research trip. His journey was a part of a bigger, 2-part expedition conducted by NOAA and the Papahanaumokuakea Monument.

Educators and researchers from 7 different nations were invited from as far as the Great Barrier Reef. Not only did they learn about community, but also about the native Hawaiian cultural practices.

But for Dudoit the trip was purely about learning how to replenish our natural resources. Mahalo to those who make it possible for us to learn from our kupuna islands to the Northwest.
