An ancient Maori proverb says, care for the land, care for the people, go forward. This is exactly what a group of researchers is doing in New Zeland. Kelly May works as a marine researcher for the New Zeland Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research or NIWA. Its goal is to sustainably manage Aotearoa's atmospheric, marine and freshwater systems and resources made possible in part through the Treaty of Waitangi. Through all the research these extraordinary Kiwi want to share their experiences with other indigenous groups. Manugaharuru to Tangitu is my home. From the mountain to the sea. It is there, recognize the work that needs to be done to protect our environment. It is important that we continue to care for our land and oceans for future generations. |
