Day 2: Obama Tee Off at Waimanalo Golf Course Print E-mail

Surrounded by Secret Service, Hawaii-born Barack Obama teed off at Olomana Golf Course in Waimanalo.

"I felt honored rarely you're in the presence of a possible president of the United States," said golfer Bruce Cameron.

Golfer Bruce Cameron didn't expect to see the Democratic presidential nominee let alone exchange a few words with him.

"He was very warm and cordial. I saw him sign some kids score cards that they brought up to him and but he wanted to get out and play," Cameron said.

Obama arrived Friday with his wife Michelle and their two daughters.

He said his priority is to spend time with his grandmother who lives here and his family. But they were not with him on the golf course.

So how did Obama do?

"I got to sit behind the first tee we always played here myself...watch him tee off. Of course he hit it to the little to the left," laughed Cameron. "I thought that might be significant."

Earlier, it was hard to miss the Honolulu Police officers and Secret Service agents on Kailua Beach.

They've asked us not to show the beach-front house where the Obamas are staying for safety and privacy reasons.

But some Kailua residents knew exactly where Obama would be before he arrived.

"Two days ago, the secret service came over and talked with us and let us know that we would be having a famous neighbor," said Kailua resident Charlotte Farrell.

Charlotte Farrell and Henry Yee were thrilled to have a presidential hopeful vacationing so close. They admit they were a little star struck when they met Obama Saturday morning.

"We've been waiting 12 years for Senator Obama to come and be our neighbor," laughed Farrell.

"I was really happy that he chose Kailua Beach to come and relax and enjoy Hawaii again," said Kailua resident Henry Yee.

Obama jogged on the beach early Saturday morning but didn't take a dip maybe Sunday.

Beachgoers, hoping for a glimpse of the presidential candidate, hope so.
