Kahala Nui funds its infrastructure and operations from residential fees and refundable deposits which start from $400,000 and up. According to Duarte, Kahala Nui then refunds 90% of that deposit to the resident's estate upon his or her death, or to any resident should they leave the Kahala Nui.
