Tropical Storm Fay is now heading for Florida's southwest coast after passing over Key West. A hurricane warning is up from Flamingo to just south of the Tampa Bay area. A tropical storm warning is in effect along Florida's east coast from Flagler Beach southward. Fay is expected to be a hurricane or near-hurricane by the time it comes ashore tomorrow morning. As of 5 p.m. Eastern, Fay was about 145 miles south of Fort Myers, moving north-northwest at about 12 miles-per-hour. Sustained winds are about 60 miles-per-hour, with some higher gusts. In the Florida Keys, no serious injuries are reported. Authorities say there's some localized flooding, and power lines are down in some areas. Fay is blamed for at least 14 deaths in the Caribbean. |
