Drivers Slow Down for Endangered Nene Goose

On the Big Island, another Nene goose has become road kill and conservationists are urging drivers to slow down for the state bird. Five endangered Nene have been killed by vehicles on Saddle Road over the past year. The most recent was hit on August 8th. Signs are posted along the roadways warning drivers the geese may be near.

From now to October, drivers are asked to be extra careful because there will be more birds in that area moving to their breeding grounds in the Hakalau forest.
