Cancer survivor Christina Applegate says she had a double mastectomy three weeks ago. She'll undergo reconstructive surgery over the next eight months. The 36-year-old actress joked "I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that. I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home." Applegate elected to remove both breasts even though the disease was contained in one breast. She said she is now cancer-free. She called the operation a logical decision. Her mother battled breast cancer, and she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer. The Batmobile from Batman Returns is being auctioned off over Labor Day weekend; The car is #3 of 5 Batmobiles actually used on screen during the film. The Auction house says other "less valuable non-movie promotional Batmobiles have sold for as much as $550,000." Batman Returns was the one starring Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer. I'm going to go off on another tangent for a few moments Steve and Ramsey...we here at KGMB9 believe in the "Genius" of Aging. Part of this means honoring our kupuna...so I'd like to show you a picture of my Grandfather. His name is Placido Palpallotoc, and he came here to these islands from the Phillipines early in the 1900's. He lived down in Waikiki for many many years, was a member of the Elks Club, was VERY patriotic and would always fly the US Flag on all holidays. Last time I visited him at his nursing home, even at his age, he would be inviting the 56 year old women across the hallway to come inside of his room to "Talk Story," which of course was not allowed, but that never stopped him from inviting her anyway. He would have been 100 years ago this October. He passed away in his sleep last night. As you could imagine, we're a little sad Papa went to eat at the Big Filipino Restaurant in the sky....but very happy he lived a full and long life. BTW: when I was in my younger years, he brought my sister and I to a television show called Checkers and Pogo, which was televised from right where Sunrise on KGMB9 is televised today. It would be my first time on KGMB9. My Grandfather was very proud of my return when we started on this channel almost one year ago. So when you get up this morning, if you get the chance. Even if it's a phone call, say hello to your kupuna today...and you can share Hawaiian 105 KINE with them. |
