And Denver's going all out to make its guests feel welcome. Here's a look inside the numbers. 100 years after hosting its last Democratic National Convention, Denver is getting ready for a modern day mass. 17-thousand hotel rooms are booked for the 4 day event. 21-thousand volunteers are signed up. The first three days will be held at the Pepsi Center, home of former Rainbow Anthony Carter and the Denver Nuggets. Exactly one-mile above sea level, it's been under construction for the last 7 weeks being transformed into a sort-of mega-church of politics to run all the technology at the convention. Crews have laid 43 miles of cable and 160 miles of copper wire. You can expect lots of blogging. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," "This will allow people to have a real access point and have tangentially part of that moment in history," 29 delegates will go from Hawaii with a few alternates and all their families. The biggest group is from California with 503 delegates. The smallest, American Samoa with 13 delegates. The final night, culminating with Barack Obama's acceptance speech, will be held at Invesco Field Stadium, home of the Broncos and former home of UH kicker Jason Elam. But only two men are in this competition and only one of them will be in Denver. By the way, not all of our delegates are voting for Obama. At least six have pledged their votes to Hillary Clinton. We'll learn more about Hawaii's delegation tomorrow on KGMB9. |
