What a showing for a trip to the U.S. championship of the Little League World Series. The Waipio little leaguers were at it again today, putting on a clinic of sorts for home run hitting. The biggest surprise the return of one of the team's injured stars. This game marked Hawaii's first meet ever with Washington at the Little League World Series. Bottom of the first, Washington up 2-nothing, Tanner Tokunaga.going to tie the game with one swing. That's a 2-run homer to tie the game. Next up to bat. Iolana Akau, who was hit in the arm by a pitch on Friday and fractured his elbow. But who would of known by the way he cranked out Waipio's second homer of the game, a 2-run shot at that, to give Hawaii a 4-2 lead. And his mother couldn't be more proud. "Knowing how he is and knowing that he really wanted to play. I was pretty confident that he would come back. From a day to day progress, how confident did you come with him. Pretty confident, he's been working every day his hitting, and the swelling has gone down, so I'm pretty proud right now," said Iolana’s mother, Cindy Akau. The Waipio squad had a total of 4 home runs in its 9-4 victory over Washington. That means Hawaii has advanced to the U.S. Championship Game on Saturday. In the U.S. title game Hawaii will face either Florida or Louisiana. All this is bringing back wonderful memories of the Ewa Beach win in 2006. |
