A University of Hawaii-Hilo faculty member led advisory committee has made several recommendations to the Food & Drug Administrator. Kenneth Morris is a professor in the UH-Hilo's College of Pharmacy, and the chair of the Advisory Committee for Pharmaceutical Science and Clinical Pharmacology. Among the topics talked about in July were the testing of lead in pharmaceutical products, more use of nanotechnology, and equal testing in brand and generic drugs. "Lead in pharmaceuticals for the U.S. has been monitored for many years and hasn't been a problem," Morris said. "But given the recent findings of lead in toys from China, it's important to be vigilant and to make sure the public knows what's being done to protect them." The next advisory committee meeting is scheduled for early next year. |
