To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Machida Trampoline Association, this year the Machida Trampoline Cup, an annual national championship in Japan that draws 200 age group and collegiate athletes, had a special international friendship component that featured invited all-star teams from China, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Japan, and Machida. Each team was comprised of two male and two female athletes except Hawaii which had only one, Nani Vercruyssen. The athletes were the best national team members from each country who were not participating in the Olympic Games. The gold medal for the women went to 20 yr old Yun Wang, a member of the Chinese National Team. 16-year old Vercruyssen won the silver medal. Vercruyssen could not compete in the Olympics this year as the sport has a minimum age of 18. Vercruyssen is now in Beijing watching the Olympics and will be coming home before starting the new quadrennial cycle in preparation for the 2012 London Games. Nani Vercruyssen was one og KGMB9's Super Kids in April. Click here for more on Nani. |
